Biofeedback Therapy
Biofeedback encompasses all the little machines we use to tell us our heart rate, test our blood sugar, view X-rays, take our temperature or measure our weight. Biofeedback therapy uses all of these tools available to us to train our bodies into improving a function by monitoring its performance and setting goals for improvement.
Like an athlete trying to master a skill such as pitching a baseball, shooting a basketball or scoring a goal on the soccer field, sometimes adjustments in techniques have to be made. Our bodies have to be trained to make adjustments to fight back against any weaknesses that may exist.
Biofeedback allows your doctor to set goals for you and give you hints on improving your body's performance based on your individual needs. As we become more educated on the functioning of our bodies, the more control we have!
Biofeedback monitoring utilizes several devices, such as skin temperature measuring tools, sweat glands monitors and Electroencephalography (EEG) machines, which monitor brain activity. A fascinating result of a person being able to know their body's systems is that we can end up controlling more muscles than were previously thought to be controllable, resulting in improved overall health.
